Kinesiology Tape

As we consider the vast implications of fascial tension in the body, the ability to modify that tension with a constant superficial stimulus should be recognized as an invaluable tool. I use kinesiology tape to alleviate pain and promote healing. The tape microscopically lifts the skin to allow for improved sliding mechanics and lymphatic drainage, similar to the way that cupping is beneficial. Since many pain conditions often feature poor superficial myofascial sliding mechanics, the tape can be surprisingly effective at reducing pain. I use tape for clients who would benefit from this type of consistent support throughout the day.

The flexibility of the tape allows me to use the tape for a variety of functions. With it I can:

  • Lift the skin for better fascial glide

  • Provide support

  • Optimize positioning

  • Modify mechanical stimulus

  • Pull the skin and superficial fascia into a specific directional stretch

  • Stimulate lymphatic drainage for acute swelling or bruising

With all these functions, kinesio tape can be beneficial if you have been dealing with:

  • Tendonitis

  • Muscle strains

  • Ligament sprains or tears

  • Chronic pain

  • Muscular tension

  • Postural pain

  • Preparing for a sporting event or game

If my clients find taping to be helpful, I teach them how to tape themselves so they always have it in their toolbox.
